This book include three short stories. In three stories,"A SCANDAL IN BOHEMIA"is my favorite one. Sherlock Holmes doesn't love. But he has one woman who he can't forget. Her name is Iren Adler. This is the story of her.
Holmes is a wonderful private detective,and he always solves amuder case. But only this time, he can't. So this story is different from other Holmes's story. It's very interesting and I enjoyed very much. So I recommend this book. ( )

This is okay. Good to read as a Sherlock Holmes completest. ( )

Adrian Conan Doyle – son till Arthur – tillsammans med John Dickson Carr har skrivit ihop några berättelser om sin fars mest kända skapelse, baserade på fall som nämnts i förbigående. Samlingen är inte helt oäven, men visar upp ungefär samma variation av fall, från de lätt genomskådade till de mer fantastiska, som faderns, låt vara att variansen är något lägre. Man får inte se något riktigt lysande, och Holmes iaktagelseförmåga i en bisaker är ganska snålt tilltagen, men berättelserna når heller inte de bottennivåer som kom från ursprungsförfattarens penna. Bäst är kanske berättelsen om det låsta rummet, vilket inte är helt förvånande när man betänker vem den ena av författarna är– även om han inte sägs ha varit den som skrivit lejonparten av detta.

Om du läst alla originalberättelser och vill ha mer i samma stil så är denna bok något att titta närmare på. I annat fall bör man först vända sig till den äldre Conan Doyle. ( )

Like the other reviewers mentioned, this is a mix bag. It basically narrates the cases that were just briefly mentioned the original stories.

Don't expect this to match the original Holmes canon. I feel that the first few stories didn't arrest my interest enough, but it got better as I read on. Some of the stories were a bit too predictable. I give this book a good rating primarily based on the last two stories--they are WONDERFUL and very creative (The Deptford Horror and The Red Widow). The other stories ranged from "alright" to "pretty good".

If you are new to Sherlock Holmes, get the real canonical stories from Arthur Doyle instead. If you are a seasoned Holmes fan, get this book to make your collection complete. I don't regret having bought it. ( )

Adrian Conan Doyle (the son) & John Dickson Carr cash in on Sherlock fame by creating new short cases from phrases in the original stories.
e.g. "The Seven Clocks" is created from a sentence in the original 'A Scandal in Bohemia'; "From time to time I heard some vague account of his doings: of his summons to Odessa in the case of the Trepoff Murder".
I do like many shared-universe compilations, but think that retroactive ones (like this one)are mostly 'good try - no zing'.
These new cases attempt to faithfully adhere to the original language and rhythm, but end up feeling a parody of Holmes rather than new Holmes cases. ( )
