I've typically grown tired of all the enemies to lovers romances out there but Oh My! this was just so fun! I love the fact that we don't meet Gabriel right away and get to see Sari and her POV so we can understand her frustration and build up to their prank war. So, speaking of Sari, while I understood her and why she is how she is, Sari did come across as very temperamental and emotional, but that's why we had such amazing side characters such as Sam and Kira to call the Main characters on their BS. Gabriel is pretty much the (im)perfect man. He is just so lovable, funny, and he can bake! He is my new book boyfriend, all other need not apply. Don't get me wrong, he does have issues and some baggage he's working on, but the fact that he's still such a joy to be around really does make him special. Guzman writing is great and while I don't speak Filipino I love the inclusion of it especially considering where Sweet on you takes place. Also, the bit of body positivity were such a great surprise that I came out feeling great about myself and that is such a magical quality for Guzman to have. Overall, once again food and romance a winning combination and a romance readers must read *A Thank you to Netgalley for allowing me to read this. This is my honest review* Sweet on You is indeed very sweet. Gab and Sari both have family "stuff", but they're good people who love their jobs and staff and, eventually, each other. Unfortunately, this made Sweet On You one of those books I can easily put down because there wasn't enough conflict to keep me invested. After about 100 pages, my brain said "okay, HEA!" and decided the plot was over? I loved Carla de Guzman's dialogue and appreciated that neither restaurant felt like the usual fiction kind where you can just disappear on a whim and nothing burns down, but it was --I can't believe I am writing this-- too gentle. Their prank war is short-lived and after that the conflict hinges upon Sari's insecurity, Gab's father issues and not much else. It just felt so obvious that they were meant to be together that I didn't feel compelled to keep reading. I think if this had been a novella, I would have zipped through and this would easily get 4 stars from me. As it is, I think it's a solid read but not the right kind for my current reading brain. I received a digital copy of this ebook from the publisher for review, but ended up purchasing an audiobook copy after struggling with the ebook. Title: Sweet On You Author: Carla de Guzman Publisher: Carina Press Reviewed By: Arlena Dean Rating: Four Review: "Sweet on You" by Carla de Guzman My Speculation: I like how this author presents 'Sweet on You' that features Sari, a coffee expert, and Gabriel [Gab] being a baker extraordinaire of main sweets. I loved the food descriptions. I like how the romance started for these two with prank wars but ended up quite different as the story continued as these two began to falls for each other. What was somewhat surprising was that 'they took only three days to fall for each other. The secondary characters, especially the siblings, really helped bring out the story to the reader. I enjoyed the country of the Philippines that was represented and the culture that was well presented. By the end of the read, the reader will be presented with a 'sweet romance, Christmas Cheer, along with some delicious food.' Thank you to the publisher for the advance copy in exchange for an honest review. geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe
