( ) Thad is the back-up quarterback for the Chicago Stars and Olivia is an opera singer. They are on a publicity tour for Marchand watches. Their first night out Olivia attacks Thad. Thad cannot figure out why. Eventually the truth comes out and Olivia must apologize. They are wary of each other but test each other before they admit their attraction. During the tour Olivia has been receiving threatening letters and packages. Thad finds out and wants to know what is going on. When he learns the story, he does all he can to protect Olivia. Will it be enough? Will their attraction turn to love? There is a lot going on here. There are the humorous parts such as his teammates. There is the suspense of the threats. There is also the affect these notes are having on Olivia. Thad does all he can to help her. They fight--boy, are they good at fighting! There are hurt feelings. There are truths both to each other and to themselves. There is growth. When Thad tries to deny his feelings and get some of his own back at Olivia, he ends up hurting himself more. They can communicate but when pride gets in the way--not pretty. I was surprised by the ending. I never saw the what or who or why. It came from left field for me but it made sense. I had a couple different whos and whys. I plan on reading more of this series. I had fun. This was a different take on the romance novel with two famous celebrities brought together to promote a fancy watch. It's a wonder there aren't more romances like this, but I don't recall reading one. Olivia is an international opera star, Thad is a nationally acclaimed sports star. It sets the scene for some interesting tensions between career demands, egos and independence. A nice amount of humour too. This is my fourth Susan Elizabeth Phillips novel and while I haven't given them high marks, she's no slouch. This is entertaining, and easy to whisk through. If you have read other SEP book and enjoy them you will enjoy this one too. Olivia is a DIVA and Thad is a jock. As usual, SEP characters have their own quirks which make them very enjoyable. Some of the interesting characters here would be Olivia, Thad, Clint, Rupert(as a weird fan). Other characters who play a significant role are Rachel, Dennis, Susan. Susan brings out a turn in the storyline that I was not expecting at all. Thad is a brilliant tactician but subs for the stars. Doesn't get as much of the glory as he wants. Olivia is on a 'singers block'. Its interesting how Thad's being a tactician helps him overcome Olivia's block. In the background of all this we have someone playing cruel psychological games with Olivia and potentially being very dangerous to her. Thad and Olivia don't really 'investigate' who it could be. Rather the characters are just revealed as we go along. All in all a good book.Definitely worth a read geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe
