"Jennifer Barnes never expected the shocking news she received at a routine doctor's appointment: she has a terminal brain tumour-and only six weeks left to live. While stunned by the diagnosis, the forty-eight-year-old mother decides to spend what little time she has left with her family-her adult triplets and twin grandsons-close by her side. But when she realizes she was possibly poisoned a year earlier, she's determined to discover who might have tried to get rid of her before she's gone for good. Separated from her husband and with a contentious divorce in progress, Jennifer focuses her suspicions on her soon-to-be ex. Meanwhile, her daughters are each processing the news differently. Calm medical student Emily is there for whatever Jennifer needs. Moody scientist Aline, who keeps her mother at arm's length, nonetheless agrees to help with the investigation. Even imprudent Miranda, who has recently had to move back home, is being unusually solicitous. But with her daughters doubting her campaign against their father, Jennifer can't help but wonder if the poisoning is all in her head-or if there's someone else who wanted her dead"--… (meer)

With one of the characters doing so much of the description about her life in relation to her illness and her triplet daughters, I was wondering how the ending could possibly be anything BUT...a last minute saving. I won't say more but this book certainly had convincing twists and turns all the way along. McKenzie is a new author for me so I'm looking forward to all of her books that are waiting for me. ( )

“I gave you a taste of your own medicine, did you like it?”

I enjoyed this thriller, told from POVs of the mother and her 3 triplet adult daughters. Jennifer, the mother, has just been told she has six weeks to live due to a brain tumor. She happened to stumble upon last years medical records and noticed the amount of iron in her blood was astronomical. How did this go unnoticed.

Filled with twist and turns, this was such a highly consumable book that I read in one sitting. 4.5 stars ( )

An interesting premise turned into 400 pages of familial bickering and airing of laundry that failed to hold any intrigue aside from possibly finding out if the main character had or had not been intentionally poisoned. When it comes to mystery/thrillers, I don’t hold the bar incredibly high, not because I don’t enjoy them, but because it really has to be particularly cumbersome for me to outright not recommend. Reading this was just an endless stream of eyerolling at the stupidity of each character’s actions, annoyance at the constant attention drawn to the triplet sisters’ differences and individual personalities. The mother was whiny and unlikable and the father was deplorable. Disliking characters in and of itself doesn’t cause me to dislike a book, it’s often a trait of a great writer to cause a reader to feel so greatly in any way about a character, but when the entire cast is difficult, it becomes a challenging read. The unfolding of the mystery itself was its only redeeming quality, with a bit of a twist that, had it been presented differently, could have made a terrific book.

I received an advanced copy of this book from its publisher. The opinions are my own. ( )

48-year-old mother of three Jennifer Barnes is at a doctor’s appointment when she gets startling news: she has a brain tumor and has six weeks to live. She’s determined to spend her remaining time with her triplet daughters focused on happy things… except she discovers on a lab test that she tested positive for lead over a year ago. And now believes someone purposefully poisoned her.

This psychological thriller was really well written. It was fairly short, with good pacing and a steady reveal of new information and twists. There are plenty of potential suspects and bad behavior to go around, including Jennifer’s estranged husband, who cheated with a much younger woman and is desperate for a divorce. He’s not the only one. I loved the way the twists and surprises kept coming, and thought this was cleverly written. ( )

Secrets, family drama, lies, and did I say SECRETS? Six Weeks to Live has it all. I'm afraid if I discuss the plot, I'll spoil it. Instead, let me just say that this is one of the best mystery/thriller books I've read all year. It's a little uncomfortable at times and you might find yourself angry at just about everyone, but that is just another reason I loved it. It felt real and in my opinion, any book in this genre should make you think, "wow, what if that happened to me?"

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for providing an ARC in exchange for an honest review. ( )
