This book was a wonderful picture-story book about one of the best drivers in the history of automobile racing. I was interested in it the moment I saw it in the list of Reviewers books because I knew that my husband would enjoy it. I had no hope of actually getting a copy. I am so glad that I did. It was a good read. It did not have a lot of text but each picture was amply documented, and the pictures were really well done. The author Dave Friedman was also the photographer of this photo-journalism book. Kudos aside, I found the book very enlightening,. especially after seeing the Ford vs Ferrari movie I was glad to get some clarification of the finish of the 1966 Le Mans race in which Miles was cheated out of a win. Ford told the French officials that they (Ford) had mistakenly reported the lap. that made him appear to win the race, The reason being that Ford wanted the headlines the next day to say "Ford Wins Le Mans" instead of "Miles becomes the first to Sweep Daytona, Sebring and Le Mans". That is something no other driver has ever done. It would have been such a victory for him and it was taken away by the Ford Motor Company's race team management who thought it would be nice if all three Ford cars crossed the finish line at the same time. Ken was ordered to slow down on the last lap and cross together. He knew he had lapped both of the other Ford cars and he had but the Ford officials had told the French official to take away one of his laps . Since only the Ford cars were in the lead by quite a distance the French officials decided it would not make any difference and the favored Ferraris could not win anyway, so they complied. I guess since the Ford motor company was paying all three of the Ford drivers, they thought they could decide who they wanted to win. They wanted the three Ford cars to cross the finish line at the same time but Miles would have no part of that so he lagged back, not knowing that the Ford Motor Company had taken away one of his laps. It was a sad ending to the 1966 LeMans race

I enjoyed the book quite a bit just looking at the wonderful pictures taken at the different races was a treat. I am not really a fan of auto racing but the story was very good and the pictures told that story quite well. I was interested in the Shelby years because of the intensity of the Shelby team. Especially Miles who did so much practice and testing in each car that he raced. after he became a member of the Shelby team and did not moonlight for other teams anymore. It was an expensive book to print with all of the pictures, but it looks to me like the publishers spared no expense. It is a good looking book. Good for them!
