Ann wakes up from a car accident to find that the life she thought she knew had disappeared like it never existed. She can't reconcile her memories with her reality in any meaningful way. But along the way I got to see Ann consider what her life would be like with the change of a couple significant decisions - how her life would be different. I really liked the resolution at the end and felt satisfied that Ann got the life she ultimately wanted. ( ) I don't know exactly what I was expecting. Maybe something like Dark Matter? It kind of reminded me of The Forgetting Time by Sharon Guskin, which I gave one star (but I didn't leave a review so I don't remember why I hated it). I guess I just wanted something more? It just felt too obvious and too safe and predictable. It got pretty boring by the end and although it was a quick read, it was pretty monotonous. I never got the "aha" moment I wanted. That said, it wasn't terrible and it wasn't confusing at all, which would have been easy for a story like this. I also was intrigued by the premise. I was intrigued at the beginning of this book, thinking this was going to be a thriller or a mystery. Why was everyone being so secretive around Ann and the circumstances surrounding the car crash? But, then as the book progressed, it turned out to be something completely different. No spoilers here, but WHAT??? This was just too bizarre. I did like McNeil's writing style, but the concept was too out there for me. I have no idea how A Day Like This found its way on to my Kindle, but I'm thankful it did! I don't remember purchasing and it's not an ARC so I'm stumped. A Day Like This was well written with an intriguing plot. There were some moments that felt repetitious, but overall a great read! If Kelley McNeil writes something else in the future, I would check it out. geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe
