I've read this author before and I like her writing and development of characters. So true, you can't even imagine how many different turns your life can take after high school! I think we should always remind young teens of this fact! ( ) What a relief when I made the decision at page 120 to stop reading. I really didn’t like this book – the characters, their values (or lack of them), the predictable plot, the language and the sex. I couldn’t believe it was written by the same author who wrote Last Summer at the Golden Hotel, which I enjoyed and gave 5 stars. I can’t recommend this one. Don’t waste your time. If you enjoy reading about four frustrated middle-aged women who are disappointed that life failed to turn out the way they had expected back in high school and love creating drama between not only themselves, but everyone around them, even when none exists, then this book might be for you. For me, it was just “meh.” I can live without reading about diva drama. I wanted to like this book, but it was highly disappointing. The characters were flat and the dialogue stilted and unrealistic. None of them achieved any of the goals they set for themselves in high school, but who does, really. Life has a way of changing our path as we age and most of us choose a different path than what we were on when we were in our teens. These women were more interested in fulfilling their yearbook superlatives than nurturing their children and their marriages, all of whom were in disrepair, so it was no wonder none of them possessed a happy home relationship. The “fairy tale” plot of the rich alum that no one could barely remember returning to his high school to not only make a generous donation, but to fall in love with the most dysfunctional of these women was too much to accept as a reader. I can summarize the book in two words, Diva Drama. I don’t care to read about it. geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe
"At their milestone high school reunion, a group of friends makes a pact to finally achieve their high school superlatives one way or another in this lively new novel from the acclaimed author of Last Summer at the Golden Hotel. In 1997, grunge is king, Titanic is a blockbuster (and Blockbuster still exists), and Thursday nights are for Friends. In Bellport, Connecticut, four best friends and high school seniors are ready to light the world on fire. Melissa Levin, Priya Chowdhury, Tara Taylor, and Suki Hammer are going places. Their yearbook superlatives confirm it: Most Likely to Win the White House, Cure Cancer, Open a Michelin-Starred Restaurant, and Join the Forbes 400. Fast-forward twenty-five years and nothing has gone according to plan as the women regroup at their dreaded high school reunion. When a forgotten classmate emerges at the reunion with a surprising announcement, the friends dig out the yearbook and rethink their younger selves. Is it too late to make their dreams come true? Fueled by nostalgia and one too many drinks, they form a pact to push through their middle-aged angst to bring their teenage aspirations to fruition, dubbing themselves the "Most Likely Girls." Through the ensuing highs and lows, they are reminded of the enduring bonds of friendship and the ways our childhood dreams both sustain and surprise us-and why it's deeply uncool to peak in high school"-- Geen bibliotheekbeschrijvingen gevonden. |
