MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK
The Cairo Curse by Peppe by Pepper Basham is a fun and interesting Christian historical fiction. The story follows newlyweds Gracie and Lord Astley, and their honeymooning in Egypt. This was turning out to be quite the adventure, as well as a few thrills going on. I think author Pepper Basham does a fantastic job writing this book, and as well as her attention to detail. I know this book was a lot of fun to research! I so much enjoyed the brilliant way Ms. Basham takes her readers on this fabulous adventurous journey through the eyes of Grace.

Ms. Basham created her characters to perfectly tell this story so well. I was glued to my see just about the whole time I was reading this book. I was afraid I would miss something, though I knew I could go back and re-read parts of the story, as I did. I love Gracie. I could connect with her and her love for fiction. She was such a loving abd caring person, and her love and devotion to her husband was do realistic, I feel like I have a new friend in Gracie. If you enjoy a wonderful, clean historical book with sprinkles of mystery and suspense flowing throughout, you will love Pepper Basham’s The Cairo Curse. This is a book you definitely do not want to miss! I am giving The Cairo Curse Five Stars and it is well deserving for more.

A special thanks to the author/publisher for a copy of this book. I am not required to write a positive review, the opinions here are mine alone. I am disclosing this with my review in accordance with the Federal Trade Commission’s 16 CFR, Part 255. ( )

The Cairo Curse by Pepper Basham is a work of Christian historical fiction that includes elements of romance, adventure, and mystery. Lord and Lady Astley are newlyweds who have already experienced their own share of danger. Lady Grace Astley loves fiction and experiencing adventure. When Grace and Freddie’s honeymoon took a detour to Egypt, I had to keep reading to see how the story would turn out.

Filled with history, mystery, danger, and suspense, the author created a story I could not put down. I loved getting to know the characters and seeing how the story would end. Grace’s enthusiasm adds a lot to this book. I couldn’t wait to see what she would do next.

Moreover, the love between Grace and Freddie provided the right amount of romance for the story. I could feel how much they loved each other through their words and actions.

So if you enjoy works of Christian historical fiction that include romance, mystery, and suspense, check out this book for yourself.

I received a complimentary copy of this book, but this in no way influenced my review. All opinions are my own. ( )

I was torn between 3.5 and 4 stars for this one as I didn’t love it the way I usually do this author’s books. I found it difficult to get immersed in as I was trying to figure out all the characters and at times they were called by their first names and then by Mr or Mrs with last names and that threw me off. Otherwise I enjoyed visiting Egypt and the descriptions of the archeological ruins was very interesting. I found the newlyweds fun characters and Grace with her thoughts and inquisitive mind kept me reading. I actually think it would make a good movie script as visually it would be more interesting for me. This is just my opinion and thoughts but find out for yourself as it is somewhat entertaining.
I received a complimentary copy from CelebrateLit. The honest review and opinions are my own and were not required. ( )

Title: The Cairo Curse (A Freddie & Grace Mystery #2)
Author: Pepper Basham
Pages: 320
Year: 2023
Publisher: Barbour Publishing, Inc.
My rating is 4 out of 5 stars.
This story takes place a couple of months after book one in the series, The Mistletoe Countess. Freddie and Grace have begun to adjust to married life and fixing up Freddie’s estate. He delayed their honeymoon until now and surprises Grace with a trip to Egypt. She is ecstatic and can’t wait to get her adventure started. She enjoys nothing more than reading up on a subject extensively. Now she not only gets to enjoy reading about her trip but she will actually get to see some of the things she has read about. They will be meeting Freddie’s cousin whose husband is on an archeological dig.
Upon arrival, Freddie and Grace hear about some jewelry thefts after Grace notices her favorite bracelet is missing. They journey to a home where they will stay that is close to the dig site. There are various people who accompany them. Once settled in the house, the couple is treated to a tour of some famous sites as well as a tour inside a pyramid. Then, accidents begin happening. Freddie and Grace quickly surmise that these are not random accidents. Then, things take a deadly turn. Grace feels she is a qualified detective and begins searching for answers to discover the guilty party. However, her questions stir the wrath of the killer.
This second book in the series started off slowly in my opinion. However, I liked the Mistletoe Countess so much that I kept reading. I’m glad I did because about the halfway point the story took off! Then, I couldn’t put the book down. I like how Freddie and Grace try their best to live out their faith in deeds, not just words. I love Grace’s enthusiasm for adventure! She looks at everything with an almost childlike wonder that I find a treasure. This story has romance, mystery, Egyptian setting and much more.

Mystery, romance, intrigue, Egyptian artifacts, and lots of witty dialogue! I loved this book! Pepper Basham has quickly become a must read author for me. The Mistletoe Countess has been on my TBR list since just discovering her books last year, so when I heard that the second book in the series was available on NetGalley, I snatched it up. I was not disappointed. Even though I hadn’t read the first book, I was immediately drawn into the story and quickly fell in love with Frederick and Grace, now Lord and Lady Astley.

I absolutely loved the setting of 1914 Egypt. From Agatha Christie to Elizabeth Peters, I’ve long been a fan of mysteries set among the pyramids and archaeological digs. This mystery was a lot of fun with mummies, ancient curses, hieroglyphics, and stolen antiquities. Frederick & Grace are on their honeymoon but take a detour trip to Egypt. What they find there are plenty of secrets, suspects, and shenanigans to please Grace’s ever active mind and imagination. When the intrigues surrounding an undiscovered tomb lead to murder, Grace and Freddie are right in the middle of it.

I loved the romance between Grace & Frederick. Even though they’re married, there was still plenty of passion and tender romance, which the author keeps closed door. Grace is such a fantastic character! From her references to literature to her love of sleuthing, she kept me laughing with her witty commentary and exuberance. Frederick is the quintessential hero and indulges Grace’s more rash ideas with patience and support. These two work so well together and I loved their relationship. Their valet Elliott plays a big role in this story and I enjoyed the mystery surrounding his past. Is there anything he can’t do?

The mystery kept me quickly turning the pages. There’s a whole slew of suspects with plausible motivations. Throw in some red herrings and a few murders, and this makes for a compelling story. While I had my suspicions, I was still guessing up until the end. The humor added a light touch and kept me thoroughly entertained. There’re also elements of faith and messages of second chances woven deftly throughout the story.

This is a must read for all cozy mystery lovers, especially if you’re a fan of Agatha Christie, Carola Dunn, and Elizabeth Peters. Thought it’s the second book in the series, it can definitely be read as a standalone. I can’t wait to go back and read the first book and am eagerly anticipating future stories involving Freddie & Grace. I received an advanced complimentary copy from the publisher. All opinions are my own and I was not required to provide a positive review. ( )
