Thurston Moore has had a multi-faceted life of 87 years from a newsboy to the President of Tennessee Players, Inc., a non-profit performing arts organization, founded in 1987, by him and his late wife, Georgianna. Many chapters have opened and closed. Their Multimedia Musical Dramatization, Words of Albert Schweitzer and the Music of Bach, has been presented in more than 150 churches and schools, including a presentation at The Washington National Cathedral. When it was presented at the Holy Trinity Church in New York City in 2005, Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg issued a proclamation for Albert Schweitzer Day, and said . Further establishes the Tennessee Players reputation as one of the nation s most innovative and conscientious arts organizations. In 2000 Moore conceived and produced a landmark 16-day international peace event, Symposium 2000 World Peace Through Reverence for Life, sponsored by Vanderbilt University, which drew worldwide attention. In 2002 he delivered the Keynote Address at the International Conference on Universal Harmony through Reverence for Life, in New Delhi, India. Moore has enjoyed success in many careers and has rubbed elbows with countless personalities, from Grand Ole Opry star Roy Acuff to comedian Henny Youngman. Some of his favorites are Ethel Waters, Cesar Romero, George Gershwin s son, Martin Luther King Jr, Christiane Engel, Minnie Pearl, Tex Ritter, Lena Horne, Rhena Schweitzer Miller, Hollis Summers, Lillian Gish, Hal Holbrook, Lorne Greene, Patti Page, Judy Garland, Oscar Levant, Johnny Cash, Naomi Tutu, Charlton Heston, Eddy Arnold, Alex Haley, Lloyd Lindroth, Audie Murphy, Hugh O Brian, Willie Nelson, Max Morath, Paul Whiteman, Arun Gandhi, Larry Adler, Alberta Hunter, Sidney Poitier, and Robert Thurman. For 25 years Moore published many books in country music over one million sold including the coveted Country Music Who s Who. In 1972 he received the Jim Reeves Award from the Country Music Academy, presented at the John Wayne Theatre, Knott s Berry Farm, in California.
