One of the earlier social histories of women during World War II. Weatherford excells at locating first person accounts and that makes her book interesting, lively and useful. This is a scholarly treatment, however, because the author organizes the topic into thematic perspectives and carefully documents her sources. She deals with Army and Navy nurses, Rosie the Riveters, WACs, WAVES, SPARs and Women Marines as well as housewives on the homefront. This is one of the best general scholarly treatments of women during World War II, standing with D'Anne Campbell's earlier study. geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe
