"In 2018, novelist Jami Attenberg, faced with a looming deadline, needed motivation. Using a boot camp model, she and a friend set out to write one thousand words every day for two weeks. They opened this practice to Attenberg's online community, and soon hundreds--then thousands--of people started using #1000WordsofSummer to track their work and support one another. What began as a simple challenge between two friends has become a literary movement--write one thousand words per day without judgment, bias, or concerns about writer's block, and see what comes of it. 1000 Words is about becoming--and staying--motivated, discovering yourself and your creative desires, and approaching your craft from a new direction. It features advice from more than fifty beloved writers, including New York Times bestsellers, Pulitzer Prize winners, and stars of the literary world. Framing these letters are words of wisdom and encouragement and specific strategies from Jami for carving out a creative path for yourself all year round. No matter where you are with your practice, 1000 Words compels you to open to any page and find a fulfilling hit of inspiration" --.… (meer)

[b:1000 Words: A Writer's Guide to Staying Creative, Focused, and Productive All Year Round|169272349|1000 Words A Writer's Guide to Staying Creative, Focused, and Productive All Year Round|Jami Attenberg|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1686091945l/169272349._SY75_.jpg|178663386] is a book of enjoyable essays with writing advice, interviews and inspiration by well-published Attenberg (six novels, a memoir, a short story collection) generated on her motivational social media site https://1000wordsofsummer.substack.com/p/everything-you-need-to-know-about. Extolling the virtues of a daily writing practice, Attenberg has set her own output at one thousand words every day and encourages her readers to try doing the same. In June, the sixth version of this communal two-week practice starts with a daily letter of encouragement from the author. The book uses the four seasons of the writer's cycle to discuss creativity, motivation, drafting and publishing. There are notes and insights scattered throughout, all geared to inspiring the writer to make art. And the book's messages could be used for other art forms as well. Highly recommended. Thanks to Net Galley for the ARC. ( )

I love reading but a self help book for writers is not my thing. Tried to get through it but then said, life is short, Why am I wasting my time on something I am not enjoying. ( )
