Agatha Christie is in good form again in this Poirot story with a complex plot. Not the most memorable of the series, but the mystery is interesting enough, and Hastings here is not as obnoxious as in some of the earlier books. (

A classic and really delightful Poirot case, full of scheming suspects and red herrings and all that good Christie stuff! This one is more of a thinker and has less action but that doesn't make it any less fun. Take a shot every time Hastings thinks he knows more than Poirot and you'll have a great drinking game to play while reading, too. (

Excellent Poirot and Hastings whodunnit, set solely in London with a dizzying range of possibilities for the murderer. Not very long; ideal for a train journey! (

It was clearly Miss Carroll's idea that murderers were only committed by drunken members of the lower classes. (

I am uncertain if this is a 3.5 or 4 star rated novel. I just went with 4 in deference to Agatha Christie. There is not a whole lot anyone can really say about these Poirot novels that has not already been said. It is also very important to not give away any spoilers, whatsoever.

I enjoyed this novel - I think some of the observations about people and their personalities/psychology are interesting and insightful. The story didn't quite interest me - the marriages of actresses will never grab my attention. Hastings begins to be a bit more aggravated and frustrated with Poirot - and voices these sentiments a bit more. Japp, of course, is a hoot.

De mooie Amerikaanse toneelspeelster Jane Wilkinson is getrouwd met een Engelse edelman, maar ze heeft genoeg van hem en wil met een ander trouwen. Ze weet Hercule Poirot over te halen met haar man over een echtscheiding te gaan praten. Zijn bemiddeling blijkt echter niet meer nodig. Lord Edgware sterft. En natuurlijk valt de verdenking onmiddellijk op Jane.

Hercule Poirot is probably the most popular character in detective fiction. The murder of Lord Edgware leads both him and the reader up to the last along quite the wrong track. The murdered man had many enemies and six people had good reasons to desire his death. Poirot, however, sets himself five questions and in spite of the good circumstantial evidence against several of the characters in the book not one of them seemed to answer all five.
