Het laatste grote Duitse offensief was aan het westelijke front in december 1944. De aanval kwam voor de geallieerden volkomen onverwacht en was aanvankelijk verrassend succesvol. Door een verstandige reactie van het geallieerd opperbevel werd de aanval afgeslagen en leden de Duitsers een zware nederlaag. In dit boek worden de overwegingen en de mogelijkheden van de strijdende partijen overzichtelijk besproken. De lezer krijgt een duidelijk beeld van wat er zich destijds heeft afgespeeld. Ook heeft de auteur in het royale foto-aanbod (in zwart-wit) een gelukkige hand gehad. Dit heeft geleid tot veel, minder bekende, illustraties. Met register.
