My spouse is from the region and has shared stories of his grandparents as they lived with the repercussions of the decisions of forces beyond their control. I liked reading this from a different perspective to supplement the tales I've heard already. There are still no easy answers though. Why is it so difficult to the "right" thing? Or is it a matter of perspective? It was easy to imagine the characters and suspense as the author described the events. Recommended for those interested in both historical events and current after effects. Deze bespreking is geschreven voor LibraryThing Vroege Recensenten. Great for fans of historical fiction! The plot kept me engaged, but the proof I was sent could use a bit more editing for clarity. Deze bespreking is geschreven voor LibraryThing Vroege Recensenten. As a concept, this book had me very excited to read it. I enjoy spy/action novels, and one set around the 1953 Iranian coup? Sign me up!
The book itself was disappointing though, as the author uses a lot of board room lingo (unironically using synergy for example) and the characters never felt natural to me. This detracted from the story a bit, but it may appeal more to people that use that language regularly.
Overall, interesting concept but difficult for me to get through. I hope the author continues writing and refining their craft because if they could make the characters livelier the stories are there.Deze bespreking is geschreven voor LibraryThing Vroege Recensenten. This book was quite confusing and difficult to get into. It jumps between the early 1900’s and the time directly post World War 2. First of all, it needs a good editor as there were quite a few grammatical errors. Secondly, the story skips a lot. For instance, one of the main characters goes home to an Israeli kibbutz, get involved with a shoot out while guarding the kibbutz, then flys to Iran a few days later. Really?? Next thing you know, this woman is an education specialist setting up advanced studies for the children in settlements being developed in the Iranian desert. No hint given prior to the announcement that she even knows anything about educational systems. I just found the whole story pretty far fetched and poorly written. Stopped reading half way through. geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe
