A combination fantasy and real-world story. The author addresses a lot of topics or issues in this one story. The topics are interesting, yet I think it would be better to narrow the range, and focus deeper on fewer topics. Also, the fantasy aspect, is interesting, and not as fleshed out as I would like. Plus, I have issues with the believability with the fantasy world. I think that's why I want that world delved into more deeply up front. Still, there is too much personification in the trees to be believable for me. I have some minor problems with the main character, and with the writing—the similes in this story don't resonate for me, and that is a hangup. Not sure if I want to continue the series.

The story is a slow burn, but I enjoyed the environmental consciousness and fantasy of the story line. I really wished the trees have the conscience and have better way of communicating with human, so we can better protect the environment we inhabit and our descendants will inherit. ( )
