This book reminds me much of the classic snow white. She has an evil stepmother and is sent away in the forest to die. However, all of the animals love Snow White since she is sweet and great with nature. The evil step mother then tries to poison her by leaving a poisoned apple in her new home with the seven dwarfs. Snow White falls for this trick and the animals lay her on flower beds in an empty spot of the forest to rest. Finally, a prince comes into the woods and the poisoned apple falls out of her mouth. She is alive again and the two of them marry. The evil step mother can see this through her mirror so she goes out into the forest to finish the job for good. However, the evil woman is never seen from or heard again. What took me by surprise was the illustration, it is beautiful and simple. However, it is nothing like the original. The colors in this book are bright and stand out tremendously. The original Snow White has more of a realistic illustration to it. The author and illustrator, Laura Ljungkuist, used gouache on watercolor paper to create its beautiful pictures. There are many different versions of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, but this is one of them that I would really enjoy showing to my class. ( )

I wasn't as much of a fan of this book as I wanted to be. The storytelling of Snow White was just as nice as it normally is but I feel like the artwork of this retelling really ruined it for me. It may be a fun book visually for kids but I just wasn't a huge fan. ( )

This is a retelling of the popular story, "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs". The illustrations are what made this traditional story a bit different. Laura Ljungkvist retold the story and had contemporary illustrations to go along with it. Her illustrations contain the basic shapes and bright colors. I find it amazing that most of the illustrations create objects using only one line. With one uninterrupted line, she created animals, plants, silverware, and other objects throughout the story. The only thing that was different from the original Snow White was that the Prince's skin is blue. Other than that, the story had the same story line as the classic. I found that the message of this story is to always remain hopeful even during tough times. In the end, her positive attitude led her to a positive outcome. In the authors note, Ljungkvist said how she wanted to create a modern look to the story that children can relate to. Overall, this was a great book and I feel Ljungkvist did an amazing job making this famous story visually interesting. ( )

I have always loved stories about princesses, and I really enjoyed reading this version of Snow White. The illustrations done by Ljungkvist definitely made me want to keep reading this book because of all the lines and color that were used. It is the classic story of the very innocent young girl who is is the most beautiful girl in the land, and her evil stepmother, the queen, is not very happy about that. ( )

I loved this story. It was definitely a twist to the classic Snow White story. I loved the beautiful art and illustrations. I would use this book in a discussion about different fairy tales around the world. ( )
