Raj / The Making and Unmaking of British India, by Lawrence James (read May 28, 1999) This is a nice fat book which when I saw it on the new books shelf of the library I could not resist, even tho I had heard nothing about it. This book did not enthrall me as much as I'd hoped it would, but it is a satisfying account of a most interesting part of history. I kept thinking as I read the latter parts of the story of Paul C. Scott's monumental 5 books on British India--tho it is over 15 years since I read them. ( )
