A funny story about a girl looking for adventure. Beetle McGrady wants to be brave and show her friends how brave she is by eating an ant. When she is unable to she becomes very upset with herself. Then, a special chef comes to visit she shows Beetle how they eat bugs all around the world. Beetle was the only child brave enough to try all the different types of bug flavored food.
This was a fun read aloud for a unit on insects. A book that was just plain fun to share with a class. ( )

This is a funny book about a little girl and her passion for science. The class is learning about different food groups and when they learn people in different countries eat bugs, McGrady is the first to show her class her bravery! ( )

While in science class, the students in Beetle Mcgrady's class are making a food pyramid. They place food that they know under each category. She wanted to start her own food group. She studying and even defended making bugs a food group to her classmates. When they said "yuck, bugs aren't food," McGrady had her books ready to inform them that people eat ants in Australia for protein. While learning about food groups in science, the children learned about the food they already knew about and they learned about new things used as food such as bugs. The teacher made sure to also introduce new foods to his students. Foods with ingredients they had never heard of and some from different cultures. The students were able to learn new things from different areas of the world and incorporate it into their science lesson the food groups. ( )

This is a fun book. I think that it is a book that your class would get very into and I think it would be extra appealing for boys. I think it is important that you bring books into your classroom that get boys excited about reading and this is a great example.

A story of a young girl who longs to be an explorer.. She thinks that by eating bugs she will conquer all and gain the status of a brave leader! When her class explores different countries foods, she is the first to dive into the bugs! I thought this book was very funny and it would be great to incorporate in your classroom when talking about other countries.
