I am a big fan of the Boy at War series, so when I found out that there was a third book in the series I was very excited. One reason I liked this story was because I could relate to the main character Adam Pelko since like Adam I had a father who passed away. Alot of the feelings that Adam felt, I used to feel. For example, I want to someday be as successful as my father just like Adam wants to be in the military and defend his country just like his father did. I also liked the description of what Adam went through when he fought in Okinawa. For example, when Adam described his leg when he hurt it. "I thought when the cast came off, I'd just get up and go, good as new, but my leg looked like hell, and I was on crutches and weak as a baby. Even my good leg had about as much strength as a bowl of corn flakes." ( )

It is about this kid that wants to join the Marines, but his mom says no. So he go's to a different state to ask his grandpa to sign the papers and he finally says yes. So he go's to boot camp and see's how hard it really is. So that is the begining of the book. And then moves on to missions.

The book I have chosen to read for this class was Hero's Don t Run. This book was a fictional story about a boy names Adam Pelko. His father was a shoulder that was killed on the u.s.s Arizona in Pearl Harbor. Adam is 17 years old and he is ready to go on duty. Adam decides to go visit his grandfather, who is also a veteran in the army. His mom agrees with Adam to go visit his grandfather because she believes that he needs a father figure.

Adam goes to his grandfathers and decides to live there because he had a talk with him about joining the army. His grandfather agreed to let him go into the army. Adam joins the army at the age of 17. he goes to camp and when he comes out he is sent right to the island of Okinawa. It was the middle of the war and it was nothing he expected.

Adam pelko is 17 years old. His father died on the u.s.s Arizona in Pearl Harbor and hasn t had a father ever since. All he thinks about is going to the army. He decides to go live with his grandfather because he agreed to him joining the army.

Adams mother who they don t give a name is a wife with 2 kids. She is working all the time with no man in her life. When Adam decides to leave she agrees with him because she thinks that he needs a father figure.

Adams grandfather is a great man and understands everything that Adam is going through. He agrees with him joining the war i think because it would make him more of a man. i think the grandfather had an impact on Adam by letting him join the war and now Adams really becoming a man.

Some of the places in this story are pretty random. First he starts out at his house in his home town. Then he travels to upstate New York to the country side where his grandfather lives.

I think this was a good story it had a lot of lessons. it wasn t really my favorite type of book but it was pretty good. Many people probably would take this book pretty easily but i think that it was a good book. i will never read it again. Lol but it was a good book.
