This is a series of biographies of ancient Greek and Roman statesmen written by another ancient Roman. Some of the famous subjects include Caesar, Cato, and Romulus, among others. Plutarch pairs his subjects up and analyzes their similarities and differences after their individual biographies.
My Kindle edition was three volumes and 1300 pages, so I have to admit that I'm glad to be done with it. The book itself is very historically important, and it's not bad, it just gets a bit tedious, even taking it in small doses. Plutarch spends a great deal of time talking about the various battles and wars that each general led, and that wasn't as interesting to me as the insights into their characters, which were not the main focus of a lot of the biographies. I did find a few great quotes and humorous lines scattered throughout. This definitely isn't for everybody. ( )

Do not combine with complete editions or with editions that have more than two volumes. The Everyman edition is in three volumes and other reprints are in usually in four or five volumes.
