A cracked egg with a talent for painting goes through some painful experiences before realizing that being cracked can be something to be proud of.

Summary:
Eggbert is an egg who paints and his friends notice a crack on him. Apparently cracked eggs aren't accepted and need to leave. So Eggbert leaves and tries to find a place to fit in, but everywhere he went he was not welcomed. He would paint flowers on himself, stars, just about anything to be able to fit in. Until one day he notices that the world is full of cracks. So he decides to travel the world and paints the cracks. Eggbert is very considerate and paints post-cards to his egg friends.

Personal Reaction:
I loved this story! Even though it is sad but it shows children that it is ok to be different and to accept who you are as an individual. I loved how Eggbert went from a follower to a leader and still cared about his egg friends who unwelcomed him.

Classroom Extension:
Postcards, accepting yourself, being happy with your uniqueness, have them write what makes them unique. ( )

This book is about an egg named Eggbert. He is an artist egg. He is different than all of the other items in the refrigerator because he has a crack. So everyone makes him move out of the refrigerator. Eggbert tries to blend in with everyone, everywhere he goes but nobody likes him because he has a crack on his back. Everyone in the refrigerator realize that they miss Eggbert and that they shouldn't have made him leave. so they invite him back and everyone is happy once again.

This was a cute book that had a very powerful lesson that many children today need to learn. It is telling kids that no matter how different someone is, they are still human beings that have feelings. The way someone looks does not mean that is how they are on the inside. Never judge a book by its cover.

The children can have a day dedicated to being nice to everyone that they come in contact with and show them how great the world can be with everyone is nice.

The children can write their own story of how Eggbert felt when everyone was turning against him.

Eggbert the Slightly Cracked Egg is about an egg who loves to paint pictures. His friiends in the refrigerator noticed he was cracked and kicked him out of the refrigerator. It took Eggbert some time to find a place where he fits in.

I really liked this book. It relates to real life situations that students face in school. The book has a great moral that everyone has a place to fit in.

You could use this book when you notice a student who is having trouble fitting in. The book will encourage him/her to keep trying and also show the other students that just because someone is different, they can still be friends.

Eggbert lives in the refridgerator with other eggs, tomatoes, and other produce. He is a great painter and always makes his friends pretty pictures to look at. One day, Eggbert's friends notice that his shell is cracked and tell him he must leave the fridge. He is saddened by this and doesn't know where to go. As he travels, he paints his shell so that he'll blend in wherever he's trying to stay at the moment (i.e in the garden he paints himself to look like flowers). Wherever he goes, he can't seem to fit in. Just when he thinks there is no place for him, he notices that there are cracks all over the world(i.e. The Grand Canyon) . So he travels the world and paints every crack he sees and sends postcards to his fridge friends.

This book is a great one to introduce the concept of self-esteem. Eggbert suffers from a poor self-esteem; he can't seem to fit in anywhere. Every child, teenager, adult feels this way at least once, if not more, in their lifetime. The characters are aren't people, but children will still understand that the concepts and theme are universal.

I could use this book in a classroom if I was having an issue with teasing, bullying, or arguing. I could also use this book to talk about everyone's differences. While we are all different and unique, we are also very much alike. The class could also think about famous "crack" places. We could draw or paint, since that Eggbert's medium, postcards of the ones we think of (i.e. The Liberty Bell).
