This is definitely an extraordinary cookbook; it is filled with stories to accompany the recipes. This book does a great job with sharing nutritional and health facts. I am not sure if Elliot is a fictional character--nor if the stories are pieces of fiction. However, if it is--bravo--to merge fiction and non-fiction is almost genius in the case of a cookbook. There are facts, recipes, and stories. I am a foodie who likes to read. This is a wonderful book for young and old. ( )

This is one of my favourite cookbooks. It weaves a story about a young boy and his friends in with the recipes and even as an adult, there are useful and delicious recipes. Many children's cookbooks consist of very little to learn or are overly concerned with safety. This book includes simple recipes like ideas for sandwiches and snacks (potato pancakes were one of my favourites when I was younger), but it also extends to fish, soups, and even yeast-risen breads. There are also interesting explanations of the history and origin of some foods, and a focus on healthy, nutritious meals. This is an excellent book to get someone young interested in food and cooking and it will continue to be a book they'll enjoy as their skills in the kitchen increase. ( )
