Othello, a coloured man, a popular soldier and newly married to the beautiful Desdemona is consumed with jealousy. 'O! beware, my lord, of jealousy; It is the green-eyed monster which doth mock The meat it feeds on. Poisoned against the woman he loves by his trusted friend Iago (who is envious of Othello and more so because he is coloured). When Iago sows the seed of doubt in Othello's mind about his wife Desdemona's fidelity and his friend Cassio's true intentions, Othello consumed by suspicion quickly becomes a tragic figure.
