( )While this book isn't as good as the others in the series (it drags in spots), it is still an exciting read. I can hardly wait until the next one comes out (Mar 2010!? argggghhh). Fun series M.J. Holliday is a paranormal investigator. Along with her best friend, Gilley, M.J. spends her time ghost busting in the New England area. Gilley is the 'agent' to her 'talent' and lands her a gig-on reality TV. So it's off to Hollywood for M.J., Gilley, and the fabulous Dr. Steven (M.J.'s boyfriend) to participate in what is described as "a haunted Antiques Roadshow". After landing in Hollywood things heat up quickly as on arrival at the haunted hotel they'll be filming the show in, they come upon a crime scene. The woman, a hotel guest has supposedly jumped from her window. M.J. jumps into action helping the woman 'cross over' much to the investigating detectives dismay. Skeptical at first, Detective MacDonald becomes reliant on her help to solve the mystery of which ghost keeps harming the guests at the hotel, and more importantly, who brought it there in the first place. Once she has exposed two ghost hunters as fakes, M.J. and Heath-a 4th ghost hunter and also the real deal, pair up to do some serious ghost busting, hunting down the sinister spirit that keeps slashing hotel guests before it strikes deadly again. This is the first Ghost Hunter book I have read, but it certainly won't be the last. Laurie writes in such a fashion that I didn't feel I was missing anything by not having read the previous installments. This book was fast paced with a lot of interesting turns. The extra .5 rating was earned simply because it scared the ghoul out of me. I can't believe I almost gave up on this series after the first book! The second was substantially better and this third installment, "Ghouls Just Haunt to Have Fun" raises the bar yet another notch. M.J. and her partner and best friend Gilley pack up their bags and Dr Steven Sable and off they go to appear on an episode of the reality t.v. show about haunted possessions. The hotel they are staying in during the taping has its fair share of mostly mild mannered ghosts but what the didn't expect to run into was a newer, evil spirit. This spirit takes over people's bodies and cause harm to people in the hotel. Within the first couple days in the hotel, there are already two very real dead bodies. The biggest positive of this tale is probaly the many ghostly spirits M.J., Gilley, and their new co-star, Heath, (who is also a real psychic) have to deal with. These are always the most entertaining scenes in the stories. Also, the action here is non-stop. There was literally no down town which made this book a serious page turner. There is also a comical (yet touching) scene toward the beginning of the story about M.J. and Heath meeting up with two fake psychics. M.J. also comes across as a lovely person. The villians weren't easy to guess and there were several good red herrings. I really liked three new characters, including Heath. My complaints are fairly few...I would have liked to see more of M.J.'s parrot, who got left behind on this adventrure. My biggest complaint is still M.J.'s boyfriend Steven Sable. He rubs me the wrong way. I don't like his problems with the English language and I don't think its cute when he gets word meanings wrong. I also don't feel like he has enough character to be a worthy mate for M.J. I was grateful when he went home halfway through the book. I think the idea of the gay best friend is becoming a cliche, but I must say I like how Laurie works it and I think Gil is a great guy. There can not be too much Gil, but Laurie is welcome to go light on Dr. Steven! Overall I am extremely satisfied with this book and I hope the next installment hits the shelves soon. geen besprekingen | voeg een recensie toe
