When the Grace children go to stay at their Great Aunt Lucinda's worn Victorian house, they discover a field guide to fairies and other creatures and begin to have some unusual experiences.
fyrefly98: Very similar stories (kids in a creepy old house learn to see magical creatures all around them), although I think Fablehaven skews just a little older than the Spiderwick Chronicles.
My darling husband brought me home a pristine set of the Spiderwick Chronicles, complete with box, from a used book store. I've just completed this first one and truly wish these had been around when I was a child. It's full of all the things I loved--a huge ancient house with a secret library, faeries, and a character who loves little animals. Too much fun! ( )

I read these sometime last spring, guess I forgot to log that here. I had already seen and enjoyed the movie, but the books fleshed out the story a bit more and had cute illustrations. Definitely seem like a good choice to keep in mind for eventual offspring! ( )
