It teaches kids how to count forward and backwards. It also teaches the basic steps in baking a cake. I like how the author made whoever came over to the house knock as many times as the number they were to arrive. I actually read the book to my 1 year old nephew and I was able to change the volume of my voice with all the action going on in the book. At the end of the book there are tips for cooking with a child and a section about math in the kitchen. There is also recipes for making a cake and frosting from scratch. ( ) There is one cook in the kitchen getting ready to bake a cake. Then a second cook comes in to help the first cook. Then a third cook comes to help with the flour. As the fourth, fifth, sixth, seventh, eighth, ninth, and tenth cooks come in to help the very first cook, with different steps in order to bake the cake. While the cake is baking, some of the cooks are helping clean up. Some cooks are getting things together to decorate the cake. Once everything was done, everybody shouted "surprise". The illustrations in the book show the readers subtle work so they can see what the author is trying to get across to the readers. Books show that it is nice to help people out. Books also show that it is fun to do something together with friends. I liked this book, however, it may be a little confusing for children to read on their own. In this book there are ten people but instead of them having actual names they have numbers for names. One would join two and then two would say something to six then eight would say something to three. It was just a little confusing. The illustration was okay. I am personally not a big fan of the "chalky" type of art. "What's Cookin'?" takes a different spin on counting, birthday cake style. This book counts all the cooks, coming in one by one. Each cook is there to do a different job, without all ten cooks the cake couldn't have been made. This book shows that teamwork is necessary to get some things done, such as baking a birthday cake. This book has very cute and colorful illustrations. This book is also a rhyming book which makes it super exciting to read. I think this book is great for little ones when learning to count, also teaching a small lesson on teamwork. Overall, this book is so fun and adorable, I loved reading it and I loved the simplicity of the lesson taught. geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe
