This information book illustrates many aspects of Roman life and culture. Some of the aspects include how Rome began, daily life, army life, sports and leisure, and the fall of Rome. The book also tells how we know about the city of Rome through finds of shipwrecks in the ocean and the city of Pompeii.

I enjoyed this book, because it had a lot of interesting information. Children would enjoy this book because there are many pictures as well as a lot of facts on each page, but done in a way that will not bore children. This would not make a good read aloud, because it is too busy. Good resource.

1.) Have children make pottery out of play dough, and use a pencil to draw art on the side of their “amphora”. Allow play dough to dry so that children can take home their Roman art.
2.) Have children write a small research paper over the aspect of Roman life that they enjoyed the most. Introduce citing sources.
