Mystery

This was another page turner with action, suspense, murder, mysterious characters and plot twists. What was the cause of death of Mary Haviland and Toby Argyle. Who is the dark assassin and who hired him?
Also, there was interesting information about the building of the sewers in London and all the danger that came along with the progress.

Monk ask deals with his new job and learning who to trust and how to get around the docks.

I enjoy seeing William and Hester Monk continue to stengthen their relationship. It all seems so natural and believable. Sir Oliver Rathbone plays his part also and not just in the courtroom. Sutton, Scuff and Crow (from the previous book) and Runcorn and Sargent Orme are very involved as well.

Alan and Jenny Argyle, Mr. Sixsmith, Rose Applegate. I hope we seem more of the Applegates.

Mientras patrulla el Támesis al frente de un grupo de la Policía Fluvial, William Monk presencia la caída de una pareja desde un puente. Resulta imposible determinar si se ha tratado de un accidente, un suicidio o un asesinato. Las cosas se complican cuando Monk descubre la identidad de los dos personajes: Mary Havilland, cuyo padre se había suicidado recientemente, y Toby Argyll, su prometido, cuya familia lideraba la empresa encargada de rediseñar el sistema de alcantarillado de la ciudad de Londres. Monk is now working for the River Police. He sees a couple arguing on a bridge over the Thames when they both go over the edge into the river and are killed almost instantly. When Monk finds out the woman's father was also killed under suspicious circumstances, he decides to investigate further. They are connected to one of the companies currently building sewers under London which the dead father thought might cause cave-ins or fires.
There wasn't as much Hester in this book, but Scuff, Runcorn, Crow, Rathborn, and Sutton the ratcatcher all make appearances to help Monk find the true killer. It's another fabulous book in a great series. ( )

En cette seconde moitié du 19e siècle, Londres souffre d'une hygiène déplorable et ses égouts doivent être entièrement repensés. Un roman policier qui nous plongent avec horreur dans les tréfonds de la capitale, entre rats, courses-poursuites et malveillance, sans compter certaines scènes dignes des "Misérables". ( )
