David Brainerd was a 18th century missionary to the Indians on the still fairly new continent of America. His tireless devtotion to them is a great example for those of all ages. His tragic death from tuberculosis at age 29 as well as his battle with it his whole life if chronicled here as well. This book by Christie draws heavily from Brainerd's journals and other biographies of him. This is a great read into the life of a great man of God. The candor which Brainerd writes in his journals gives a great glimpse into his whole life. (

[Forword] David Brainerd was a living illustration of how, in order to conound the might and the wise, our God delights to use those whom the world might deem weak and foolish (1Cor. 1:26-29).

[Introduction] At the end of a somewhat discouraging Sunday of ministry, David Brainerd, one of the earliest missionaries to Colonial American Indians, wrote in his diary: 'In the evening I was grieved that I had done so little for God. Oh, that I could be "a flame of fire" in the service of my God!'

In 1649 an eight-year old orphan named Daniel Brainerd was brought from Essex, England, to Hartford, Connecticut.
