I first discovered Trust while browsing at Barnes and Noble. When it was offered as a tour selection from Crazy Book Tours, I knew I had to sign up. I enjoy reading books that deal with family dynamics.

It took awhile for me to connect with the characters, including Susanna. The beginning chapters moved slowly for me and I became impatient as I waited for the event to occur. I must say, though, after finishing the book, I realized the initial slow pace is crucial to the storyline. It was much easier to view Susanna’s life as before the event occurs and after the event.

The second half of the story Trust was much better for me, although I still had not warmed up to Gerry (and I never did). Witnessing the transformation of Susanna was both heart-breaking, but yet inspiring. As the veil of illusion was lifted regarding her marriage, Susanna gained the confidence to become the woman she always wanted to be. ( )

I really enjoy Veitch's books. I enjoyed her first one called Listen The characters are well developed and real. This one tells of a family reaching a crisis point, a moment in time when everything changes, things are not as they seem, and people must find their own ways of coping and deciding the kind of person that they want to be Characters include Susanna who has reached a crisis in her mid life. She has artistic dreams but has sacrificed them to be a good wife and mother. At this point in her life she is trying to prepare herself for an upcoming exhibition. Susanna's sister Angie has had a troubled life till now but is trying to find acceptance through belonging to a charismatic church and connecting with a very conservative musican form the church whose discipline of her son Finn causes great distress to him. Susanna's husband Gerry is is career focused and unfaithful to her. Then there are her children, Sebastian who is trying to come to terms with his sexuality and Stella -Jean who realises what is happening to Finn and becomes increasingly concerned for him. Lastly there is Susanna's mother who has a close relaationship with Susanna but has struggled to bond with her other daughter Angie because of the life she has lead. The story is set in Melbourne at the time of the bush fires. Susanna finds her exhibition pieces through drawing sketches of tragedies she has only heard or read about. The book is a little open ended While some issues become resolved at the end of the book Susanna and Gerry's future is not certain. All in all a great read ( )
