Written when the author was in his seventies, these erotic stories are reminiscences of a lost youth. Through the use of two narrators - one representing youth and the other age - Teixeira-Gomes commingles nostalgia and cynicism in his descriptions of the past. This dichotomy is further enhanced by the sardonic gaze of the author which scrutinizes the self-obsessed male protagonist. It is Teizeira-Gomes's unflinching irony which allows him to offer realistic portrayals of a hypocritical society, whilst at the same time questioning and ridiculing it.
