Am looking forward to seeing more of all the characters in the next book. ( ) The Diviners is well researched and competently written, but it's a meandering, bloated slog of a read. The novel should be 300 pages shorter than it is. There are frequent small sections that are from characters who otherwise have nothing to do with the plot that were likely included because they'll feature more in later novels. However, having so many of them and so many small interruptions added serious length and boredom to the book. The Diviners also suffered from a serious case of over description. Instead of lending a mysterious atmosphere as I think was intended, it makes the book feel unfocused. Readers who love the 20s and Jazz age New York will probably enjoy some of that more than I did. The concept is great and there were definitely enjoyable parts of the book, but overall it wasn't for me. geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe
