This book was published in 2002, so it does cover the early days of Rock N Roll but information probably ends around the year 2000 or so and you'll need to consult more recent books if you want information for 2000 and beyond. But I think it does a good job of explaining why Cleveland is a good home for the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame--after all, the song is titled "Cleveland Rocks". I've not heard a song called "New York Rocks" ;)

I've read two other books on this subject by this same author and both those were slim volumes with quite a few photographs. I was surprised by how hefty this tome is. And while there are photographs, they seem to be more spread out within the pages than they were in her other books. I did know some of the history for Cleveland, OH area but this book definitely goes into more detail. I most enjoyed the 70s and 80s sections. There were times that I wished I'd been around when certain places were because I think I would have enjoyed going to them (like the teen clubs).

I've met the author at various writing events. I think this is the first time that I've read a non-fiction book about someone I know a bit about. Of course, I know more her author-side and this series of essays show other sides of her life. I did know she'd written books about Rock & Roll and Cleveland, OH but I didn't necessarily understand before reading this how much she'd enjoyed the music when she was younger or how she was tied to the music scene or got involved with writing about Rock & Roll.… (meer)

This author is local to Ohio, and I have met her at various book events in the area. She's written several books about music in Cleveland as well as several fiction books.

This book contains many pictures, most with a paragraph or two that explains the picture and how it relates to Cleveland, Ohio's rock & roll scene.

Topics covered include: deejays, radio stations, bands, musicians, venues, behind the scenes personalities, and the hall of fame.

If you've read other books by this author or other authors, there is some repetition of information.… (meer)

This author is local to me, and I've met her at several writers's events in the area. This book is the second book in her Rock and Roll love story set and focuses on Charlee (the daughter of Peggy Sue from the first book).

There appears to be a time gap from when book 1 ends to the start of this book. Echo & the MissFits breaks up and Echo/Charlee goes on to have a successful solo career that she halts to play wife to Dusty and mother to Dylan, their first child.

I think the author does a good job at showing the stresses a marriage undergoes when something bad happens to the child. The marriage either grows stronger as the two parents work together and comfort each other or it grows apart because they each focus on their own pain and don't consider what the other person is going through. Some marriages still make it . . . as this one does, but some end up in divorce.

WARNING: SPOILERS MAY FOLLOW--READ ON AT YOUR OWN DISCRETION:

Though I would have wished Dylan weren't kidnapped, it was good to know that he was still alive. I am glad he had people in his life that cared for and about him--even if it wasn't the best life.

I'm not sure how realistic it is to have a kidnapped child returned to his family more than 13 years after the kidnapping. I suspect it doesn't happen often.

I was sad that Angela died, but it does highlight how much cancer treatments have changed over the years. Angela was such a strong supporting character in the first book of the series. Her presence would be missed in the lives of those she touched.
