An apparent obsession with illustrating every idea with a list does serve to enrich the story line at times; but it also creates run on sentences that made me want to start skimming in places. Fascinating perspective however, and one not always (at least not easily) available to readers north of Garcia's Mexico.

Unfortunately, it took less than 1 story to make me realize that this book was not my cup of tea. When I requested it, I honestly thought it was a real-life travel log of the author - the places he'd visited and the things he'd seen in his travels. Instead, what I got was a collection of short stories that just didn't click with me in any way. Even the pictures, while fascinating, are lackluster in black and white.… (meer)

There is a lurid feeling to the tales which are descriptive rather than plot driven. It was easy to put this book down and lose it. The illustrations are engaging and may pull me back for another look. This ER book has made me very careful about what I request based on a publisher's blurb, text unseen.
