Korte biografie
Ahmad Ardalan was born in Baghdad in 1979. At the age of two, he moved with his parents to Vienna, Austria, where he spent most of his childhood and underwent his primary studies. After his father's diplomatic mission finished at the end of 1989, he returned to Iraq, where he continued his studies and graduated from the University of Dentistry. As a result of the unstable political, military, social, and economic conditions in his home country, Ahmad decided to leave Iraq and move to the UAE. After facing difficulties to pursue his career in dentistry, he opted to pursue employment in the business world. Since then, Ardalan has held several senior roles within the pharmaceutical and FMCG industries, throughout much of the Middle East.

Billed as a historical romance. I was hoping to get more "historical" and less romance, but twas not the case The story takes place in Baghdad in the 1950's, a time of the assassination of the royal family as well as the end of British "occupation." About the content: this was the best part of the book, the stories of the daily life, gardens, political situations, etc. About the writing: left much to be desired. The sentences were short and stilted. This may be due to translation. I listened to this on audio and the reader was very monotone. This was a short novel of 226 pages, so it was a quick read. (5 hours 21 mins)… (meer)

Romance, drama, a bit of suspense... all come together in this majestically painted tale of a young man`s life journey. Reading about the artwork is like stepping into a painting yourself.
Sebastian is a protagonist you will genuinely like and will be pulling for. Life does not give him anything without extreme effort. Is his dream strong enough to help him survive the required sacrifice?

Art is love and love is Paris and this tale explores one man's devotion to the beauty of art in the City of Light in the area known as The Marsh. Sebastian suffers and grows and the reader becomes a viable part of his life. I truly loved it.
Whether you explore the area online before or after reading The Art Collector, it will definitely enhance your appreciation of it.

A beautiful tale of love, discrimination, obsession, and a city and country that have suffered much in the last fifty odd years. The bookseller in Baghdad lives in precarious times, and while unhappily examining a book he finds that its innards have been replaced by a locket and the personal journal of a man who identifies himself as the Gardener of Baghdad. This is the love story that is interrupted by discrimination and revolution. The obsession is that of the bookseller who is compelled to read it and try to find out what happened after its abrupt end over fifty years ago.
Randal Schaffer gives a moving audio performance as narrator.
I requested and received a free audio copy via AudioBookBOOM, and then discovered an ebook copy in my TBR pile from a year ago!
