7/10, this was an interesting historical novel, but I enjoyed this one. The story itself was rather unique, but quite dark at times, it was basically about a guy called Christoph, who moved to New York to sing after the death of his wife. I wondered why some people would support fascism in this book, which eventually came to a head when a full-blown riot erupted between them and the anti-fascists. Towards the end of the book, it got bittersweet, because Christoph wanted to go back to his home country in Germany, but there was almost no one in the village, which was kind of depressing. However, in the end, this book finished on a high note when Christoph decided to look for his daughter, Eva, in England, and he eventually found her. Christoph himself even experienced character development, by essentially almost letting go of his German heritage and becoming an American man, he even changed his name and identity, which was interesting, though I noticed that he didn't experience any racism, I wonder why. The only problem with this book was that the writing style made the book slow at times, but other than that, it's a great book.
If you want a historical novel about romance and a family, this is the book for you.… (meer)
