It doesn't take too much exploration of this collection to arrive at the understanding that this author has walked your walk. I found the collection to be almost completely relatable and found that each of the selections led to deeper reflection on my part. A great idea for a gift for a colleague, though I'd hold off on gifting to a new professional or recent graduate as I think to truly synch with this book, you have to have spent some time walking the walk and fighting the, sometimes good, fight!… (meer)

Choosing some complex feelings and unique animals means the book can be used as a springboard for kids to talk about their feelings in new ways. I could see this being the start of a great project where each child picks an emotion to illustrate for a class or group book. It is also ideal for a sensitive child to learn new words to express feelings. It was a lot to process at one time, though, so might not be the best "fun read aloud" choice.
