Here are the compelling stories of eleven "reverts", Catholics who fell away from the Church and eventually came back home. Some of the people are very well-known, like Fr. John Corapi, Rick Strom and Jesse Romero, and others are known only in their smaller circles. But each person's story of why he left the Catholic Church and why he returned is a unique and moving tale of God's mercy, love and grace. There is one common denominator, though, among the writers of Welcome Home! To parapharse Archbishop Fulton Sheen, few hate the Catholic Chruch for what she teaches, but millions hate it for what they think she teaches. The defining moment of illuminating grace almost always came when our storytellers began to examine Catholic teaching for themselves.… (meer)

In an attempt to motivate their workforce, misguided employers can sometimes use threats, fear, and even manipulation. And while it may temporarily get a more productive result, in the long run it only frustrates and deflates their employees. Further, this negative reinforcement can even produce a high turnover rate. Author Terry Barber says that it doesn’t have to be this way. And why motivate when you can inspire?

“The Inspiration Factor: How You Can Revitalize Your Company Culture in 12 Weeks” is a fresh, Stephen Covey-esque process on empowering and positively motivating employees for a happier and more productive company culture. Barber offers down to earth, real advice on being authentic while uplifting those around you. He delves into his four personality profiles, explains different leadership styles and how to relate to various individuals if you take their own personalities into account, and the art of establishing and maintaining credibility. Like Covey’s seven habits, Barber has seven principles meant to boost low morale and show others the potential that they may not already see within themselves. Tried and true, these simple principles have not only shown increased productivity and decreased turnover but overall a better quality of life at work and at home. Whether you are a born leader or have simply risen to a position where it is now required of you, you’ll find ample information and advice. At the end of each chapter, he even offers weekly objectives and further work to help you during the process of becoming an inspiring boss.

“The Inspiration Factor” is a fantastic read for employers, managers, and supervisors as well as anyone in a mentoring position. Barber’s language and style are easy to understand and to put into practice regardless of personality profile. The book itself is extremely well edited and contains no noticeable errors. The cover is simple but professional and projects an authoritative feel.

“The Inspiration Factor: How You Can Revitalize Your Company Culture in 12 Weeks” puts ‘passion’ back into ‘work’ by recognizing employees’ individual talents while empowering them to realize their unmet potential. If you enjoyed Stephen Covey’s “Seven Habits of Highly Effective People”, Terry Barber is a must read. Inspiring!

“The Inspiration Factor: How You Can Revitalize Your Company Culture in 12 Weeks”
by Terry Barber ISBN 978-1-60832-026-4

Do we really know how to inspire?

There is a huge difference in motivating and inspiring as you will learn from Barber. Do you think you motivate your employees and family members by being strong, assertive and setting a good example? Are you passionate and compassionate about your work? Barber will tell you that you may not be cutting it! Demanding more of people because they haves potential and can do better may be driving those that you direct away. Barber makes his point from the get go that there is a huge difference in “motivation” and inspiration.” People are driven by inspiration and he explains how that will help you get more from your employees and even family members. His techniques and education approach are insightful, creative, authentic; and genuinely can raise the bar for how you interact with people. It will also give people a different feel about you! He explains various leader types and allows you to select which one most appropriately fits you. How would you do if your employees gave you a personality profile review?
He explains how to adapt your leadership type to accomplish more and to bring out more of the best in the people you manage. He suggests how to connect with others dreams and aspirations. Barber teaches you to see in others abilities what they don’t see in themselves. If you help people get what they want, you will not only get what you want…but much more. He discusses how to create a new corporate culture that stems from helping others achieve and reach their goals. This will set you apart from the other millions of ordinary, boring corporate cultures and managers that strive only to bleed the most out of employees for the sake of getting the job done, or for profit. The author inspires you to do more and to do it differently. He teaches how to create value in your relationships that become rewarding and long lasting. How do your subordinates really feel? You should want to know! Maybe it’s time to ask and to be the inspiration they need. Share more of your true self. That wins! This book is revitalizing. You can’t help but find yourself in it. I took away many ideas and found many ways to improve how I interact with not only employees, but friends, and family members.

I was given a complimentary review copy.

Read this one for consideration in the Golden Oak Book Club. Despite the "Dick and Jane" writing style, it's definately a contender. It manages to condense Jane Goodall's life into a very short, logical narrative and allude to some interesting topics while using very simple langauge. Also, excellent use of photographs and captions.
