Suitable for a beginner or as a catalog of new ideas for someone more advanced, Rich Beech's Decorative Origami is a useful and nicely done instructional manual. I was searching for instructions for making boxes, and I found it here, along with other practical, useful, and simple designs for such things as a "page corner" (a very nice bookmark), a pin tray for such as safety pins or paperclips, a business card holder, a gift bag, a gift tag, and others -- for a total of 28 projects. Included are a history of the art of origami, illustrated with full-color photographs of work by professional artists; sections on papers, equipment and preparation, techniques and tips; and the projects. The written instructions for each step in each project are illustrated with a color photograph. This is truly a useful and beautifully presented book.… (meer)

One thing I really liked about this book was that it explains all the folds at the beginning, separate from the projects. That way you know where to look when you forget how to do a particular fold. There are a lot of practical projects like napkin folding and things to make to keep kids entertained.

An OK book for beginners as it gives a good range of different types of folds with photographic instructions rather than diagrams. Annoyingly it was republished at least three times within a year under quite different titles, and then sections started being released under descriptive titles.

This origami book has a number of simple designs. They are not traditional, and most don't have a really high wow factor except for the modular designs at the end of the book.

The modular origami designs are fascinating! You fold many papers of the same design and then fit them together into larger "mechanical" shapes. Very fun and interesting!
