Father Malachi Martin attributes the apparition of the Prophet Samuel's spirit to King Saul to be a case of demonic impersonation in order drive Saul into despair and ultimately suicide. Sirach 46:20, however, states that “Even after [Samuel] had fallen asleep, he prophesied and made known to the king his [imminent] death, and lifted up his voice from the ground in prophecy, to blot out the wickedness of the people” (NRSV). In this case, this announcement by the Prophet Samuel serves to offer Saul time to repent.

Of course, nothing is impossible with God. God can, if He so will, communicate even through seances or ouija boards. But the dangerous reality is that God does not promise to work through these occultic means. Many deceptive spirits are at work in the world and there is no guarantee that God or a saint will be communicating through such occult practices. God and saints do not manifest themselves according to our whims. To seek contact with spirits through occult means is to open oneself to the operation of spirits who seek to steal, kill, and destroy us. Father Martin's warnings concerning involvement in occult practices deserve to be heeded. DANGER!

The best part is his section on rules of a good radio show and a good radio host, every rule of which is broken every night by his unfortunately-chosen "heir" to Coast to Coast, Jorch Noory.… (meer)
