I bought this story because I'm a big fan of the Marie Jenner series, and have bought all of the books in the series as soon as I could. Including this one.

I was kind of disappointed. It's not really a Marie Jenner story, in that she and David barely have cameos in it, but their....representations? play a bigger part than the characters do. And there is barely a reference to Marie's deal, which (in my opinion) should be the centerpiece of any story in the series, even a short story.

Edgar Sullivan's Christmas Carol is, as the name implies, a retelling of the Dickens classic. David, Marie, and the dog "portray" the Ghosts of Christmas Past, Present, and Future respectively. Interesting take, especially with the relationship between Sullivan, his family, and his employee that he accuses of stealing from him almost throughout the story.

I don't regret getting it, but I wish I hadn't gotten my hopes up about it.

Very cool to have good science fantasy coming from a group of local authors. Really enjoyed - great beach reading. All are Alberta authors and this book won the 2009 Aurora award - an alberta publishing award. Should be better known. Thanks CKUA for letting me hear about it - isn't Eileen Bell one of the arts announcers?
