A solid overall plot/world and interesting characters, but I have a lot of issues with the book. The relationship between the two main characters had a nice initial spark, but it was never developed, never grew, because all the dates/conversations focused on the "mystery" instead of anything personal. When you add in a refusal to talk about the paranormal aspect until 80% into the book, I have to ask, do these characters know ANYTHING about each other?

Writing from the standpoint of the bad guy takes all the mystery out of the murders, and contributed to my confusion because it introduced named characters who were ultimately unimportant. And I was confused far too often. I have no idea what the "Jordan" murders have to do with women being violent. I have no idea what in particular in that final battle set Kristoff off; that mention in the epilogue came off as an attempt to set up the next book, but like I said, just left me confused. Also, it appears the entire coven was slaughtered by their own, evil leader, so who exactly is Peter supposed to be in charge of? I take issue with the amount of death in general; a few important deaths have more emotional impact than wholesale slaughter, and no leader who executes whimsically will stay in power. Unless this was a coven of a hundred thousand people to start with, there's no one left to lead! Making her seem foreboding would have worked better with violent and cruel, but non-lethal, punishments of her minions. Beat them, scar them, make them watch as you torture a loved one...

Also, perhaps don't compare a dick to a bucket. His lover's body may be a well of pleasure, but just... no.

I normally read pretty quickly and devour books. This book took me a while to read, and it was all for good reasons. The story was pretty complex, but it was really interesting and kept my attention the whole time. Daniel is in an abusive relationship and is finally able to escape after almost dying. He is the son of a wolf alpha (even though he is human), so he knows there are other beings out in the world, but he has no idea the extent of it. He has this strange connection to his hospital doctor, and eventually, they realize that they are more to each other than they ever thought possible. This took some twists and turns, and there were times I had to slow down to process everything that was happening, but I thought it was really interesting.

As a collection of stories, 'A Walk on the Wild Side' worked particularly well for me. For one thing, I love paranormal creatures and the problems and challenges they face. Then there is the sheer variety of beings and stories displayed in the anthology. And, last but not least, the characters I got to know as I worked my way through the books making up the 2016 'Daily Dose' were fun, entertaining, creepy, and interesting. What more could I want?
