This describes some specific Christian communities active at the time of publication (1974) and their differences theologically. The final chapter is clear that to be biblical, the preaching of the Word is most important, and shouldn't be neglected in favor of social or political goals, or even the spontaneous testimonies of individuals, or other spiritual practices.

It felt a little disorganized at times and, of course, it's fifty years old at this point, so I believe many of the communities mentioned no longer exist. However, it was an interesting look at the various ways in which well-meaning people have strayed from biblical truth.… (meer)

This is the seventh and final volume in Bloesch's series on Christian theology. It is written in his usual clear and engaging style, and it shows familiarity with a wide range of sources. The book is filled with excellent quotes from sometimes obscure sources. Bloesch's theological conclusions are not always anchored in exegesis of the biblical text and sometimes seems to override the biblical text. But he provides much food for thought even if some of his views are ultimately not convincing.

This book is written to clarify the tenets and doctrines of evangelical theology as opposed to, say, liberal theology, postmodernism, and the like. The comparisons are justly made without accusation or arrogance and the reader is left to make his own decisions. The truth is stated unapologetically and rightfully so. A great book...an easy read. I recommend it.
