Yossef Bodansky has been the director of the Congressional Task Force on Terrorism and Unconventional Warfare for more than a decade. He is the longtime director of research at the International Strategic Studies Association and senior editor for the Defense and Foreign Affairs group of toon meer publications. Bodansky has been a visiting scholar at the Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies, as well as a former senior consultant for the U.S. departments of Defense and State. There was nothing especially bad about this book. But I struggled to find a context. I didn't know most of the people mentioned in the book and the author seemed to jump around so much that a plotline was all but incoherent.
Even though this book is 20 years old(1993)it gives a quite insightful look at Islamist terrorism, what motivates them, how they operate and their support networks. Including the nations involved. The title is a bit misleading as only the last two chapters are about terrorism in America. The first chapters are about why they are terrorists, their training and who trains them. The middle chapters are about how they operate in Europe.
It answered a few questions I had about how they operate and how they can deflect attention away from themselves afterwards. Anyone interested in this subject should give this book a read. My only real criticism is that the book could have been shorter.… (meer)

A remarkable book explaining how Israel itself is targeted by the Muslim world, and how nothing has changed in the past 15 years. The current issue of the NY Times concerns a visit of Obama to Israel to talk "peace" and as did Clinton he will be meeting with Netanyahu. The role of Iraq is emphasized.
