Not nearly as good as I was hoping it would be.

This is a unique book, not really one to sit down and read cover to cover, but to dip into and read in parts, allowing time for each part to digest before reading another. Like a plum pudding, it is stuffed with rich morsels of information - eg:"The Origin of Names of Some Famous Dishes and Garnishes, and Historical Culinary Terminology" It has the most comprehensive bibliography on the subject of gastronomy of any other book on the subject that I've seen.
