LUCINDA BRANT is a New York Times, USA Today. Amazon, and Audible bestselling author of Georgian historical romances & mysteries. Her novels have variously been described as from 'the Golden Age of romance with a modern voice', 'heart wrenching drama with a happily ever after', and 'Georgette Heyer on rollerblades!".

All her books are set in the 18th Century, spanning 1740 to early 1780's Georgian England, with occasional crossings to the France of Louis XV. She pulls up the reins at the French Revolution - where she lost a previous life at the guillotine for her unpardonably hedonistic lifestyle as a layabout aristo.

"Quizzing glass and quill, into my sedan chair and away! The 1700s rock!"

Salt Bride by Lucinda Brant is a historical romance story that I quite enjoyed. The Earl of Salt Hendon and country squire’s daughter Jane Despard reluctantly get married. For him it’s the fulfillment of a deathbed promise and for her, it’s because her beloved stepbrother will only come into his inheritance if she gets married. But we realize quite quickly that these two actually want to be married to each other and that they have a past of shared heartache, deception and mistrust.

Full of melodrama, Salt Bride is far from perfect, but although the heroine is too good to be true and the hero is so manly and admirable that every woman wants him, the villainess of the piece was so over-the-top wicked that I looked forward to her scenes. Although the plot was predictable, and the author a little too long-winded, I found myself intrigued by the situation. The characters connections to each other were convoluted and at times slightly confusing, but eventually that just added to the fun.

There is a sequel to Salt Bride and I fully intend on continuing on with this story in the near future especially as they are free with the Kindle Unlimited program.

2.5

The plot has some similarities with Georgette Heyers book [bc:These Old Shades|311182|These Old Shades (Alastair, #1)|Georgette Heyer|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1386920834s/311182.jpg|2682162] in that they are both about a young innocent girl and an older cynical man,and set in France.

Antonia is only slightly less silly than Leonie from "These old shades" while Roxton is even more arrogant than Avon.

Roxtons arrogance and cynical worldview was actually a bit offputting.

Most of the characters are related one way or another.

While it may seem weird to a modern person,I truly believe that was the way of things among 18th century aristocrats.

Three love stories, three elopements, all to Gretna Green, which is a famous town in Scotland where many went to elope, starting in the mid-1700's. You would think knowing how each story ends would take away from the stories themselves but if anything it adds to the charm.

Saving Grace by Lucinda Brant is the story of Helen, a heartbroken widow, and Royston, the man who broke her heart long ago. They are back in each others lives, each with their own lot of unanswered questions, journeying together to Gretna Green to stop the elopement of Royston's youngest sister, Grace.

The premise of Saving Grace is sweet, and I really wanted to love this story, but it was a dry read for me, and a story that I struggled to get into the entire time I picked it up. I loved all of the characters but with the majority of the story taking place inside the carriage on their way to Gretna Green the story lacked that spark I so desperately craved.

Fools Rush In by Julie Daines was hands down my favorite story of the three. Richard needs a wife to collect his inheritance and Eliza needs liberation from an arranged marriage. When Richard overhears Eliza's plight, and recognizes the similarities with his own, he proposes a scheme to Eliza that will save them both from their predicaments. Before either of them realize they are off on a crazy journey that has them both wondering who exactly are they fooling: everyone else or themselves.

I have to say that I loved everything about this novella. The story line, the character development, action and adventure, and of course the love were all perfect. This was one of those stories that had me literally signing at the end and even though you can predict the outcome quickly the journey getting there is not what you'd expect at all.

A Lady of Scandal by Heather B. Moore starts off with a bang. Literally. Bridget has only been married four hours when her husband accidentally shoots and kills himself, making her a widow before she is even a wife. You soon find out that this death is a blessing in disguise since their marriage was one of convenience and not of love. Her late husbands family detests Bridget, including his cousin and best friend, Lord Hugh, whom has never met Bridget, and blames his cousins death on her.

When Bridget's young sister runs away to Gretna Green with a man who is believed to have questionable intentions, Bridget turns to Lord Hugh to help her stop the elopement. It is on this trip that the truth is finally revealed and takes both Hugh and Bridget by surprise.

This was another adventure that I adored. Your heart goes out to Bridget and everything that she's endured and the story does have a few twists that are unexpected. The characters are developed, the premise is interesting, and the way the story began was so unexpected.

All in all, Road to Gretna Green was a great installment in the Timeless Regency Collection and one I think many will enjoy.
