Had never seen this book before that has great resonance in terms of growing up after Bannister broke the 4-minute mile, Herb Elliott, Peter Snell - I can see TV image of him in black -, Pancho Gonzales and that match against Drysdale, Angela Mortimer beating Christine Truman in the Wimbledon final in 1961, Peter May, Anita Lonsborough - and more excellent and memory triggering essays. Really enjoyable for someone brought up in the 1950s - these people are their first heroes.
