The book Scariest Stories Ever Told, written by Roberta Simpson Brown, was a fun read. The book is sectioned off into sections: Something’s Not for School, Shadows in the Woods and by the Water, Welcome to Your New Home, Things Aren’t Always What They Seem, and Better Not Mess with What’s Best Left Alone. Each section contains around 6 scary short stories.
I would recommend this book for anyone who likes a good scary story and a quick, inviting read. The stories are all short in length, therefore the book reads fairly fast. By far, my favorite section was Things Aren’t Always What They Seem. I loved the story titled, Costume Party. In this section each story had a bit of a twist to it. You would start off thinking one thing and then the unexpected happened.
The book is trying to attract some younger readers. The stories did not scare me, but could possibly put a little scare in the younger, middle school level. I do not think there is anything here that would scare them so badly that they could not sleep! Perhaps they may just think about things a little differently.
I like the way the book is set up. Each section is a different theme, so it makes for an interesting read. There are many options to start with first. You do not necessarily have to read the book in order from front to back. I chose to pick the section I was most interested in and jumped to that first. From then, I just jumped around to the other sections of the book.
Overall, a great read that I would recommend to my fellow thrill/fear seekers!… (meer)
