A really good book of the history of Fleetwood Mac, one of the most successful bands of the last 40 years. Brunning, a UK teacher, musician, club owner and writer, provides a unique insider's perspective on the band for whom in its very early incarnation he was bassist. A relatively quick and enjoyable, interesting read.

This covers in some detail a particularly interesting period of music when I first started buying records as a teenager and was first exposed to both blues and jazz via rock music. Back in those days before punk rock, most of the music was blues/r'n'b inspired or blues-based. Unfortunately this book is so clumsily written that the whole period is rendered somewhat dull. The author sometimes has recourse to reeling off interminable accounts of band line-up changes. But it is (as far as I know) a unique insider's account (the author played bass in a number of key groups including early Fleetwood Mac) which makes it valuable. Details of obscure and now-forgotten groups and clubs will carry interested parties through the turgid prose. It's for purists and that's its saving grace.… (meer)
