Colin Burgess was born in London and educated at the University of Wales. In the years immediately after publishing The Age of Stonehenge, the author gave up digging and any serious interest in British prehistory, and turned to the archaeology of the Mediterranean, and particularly of the Sea of toon meer Peoples and the Phoenicians. In the years 1986-1993 he directed a major fieldwork project in the Evora area of central Portugal, and in recent years he has been very much concerned with the archaeology of Sardinia. In the early 1990s he took early retirement, eventually moving with his wife to France toon minder
